THE Oak grove STORY

WE STAND FOR LIVES CHANGED BY CHRIST

In 1897 a group gathered to hear Rev. Elias A. Stamey preach in the newly built schoolhouse in the Miller’s Gap Community. The congregation listened while sitting on floor joists to a sermon on “Abraham and Lot.” Rev. Stamey closed with this Statement, “If you never remember me or anything. I say, don’t look back: remember Lot’s wife!".

On the 2nd Sunday in August, following the preaching of Rev. Tom Reid and Rev. Elias, God began to move. Revival sprung up in the Millers Gap community. This resulted in unplanned special services, 17 professions of faith and 13 baptisms. On August 24, 1900, following the baptism of those 13 souls, a church was organized. This group assumed the name
Oak Grove Church of Christ. 

Today this congregation is Oak Grove Baptist Church.
A new 3rd meeting house was built in 1973 and remodeled in 2000. After 125 years, God is still not done with the people of Oak Grove.


The days ahead are bright for us though. Not because of a deacon, new pastor, new ministry or really any member.
The days are bright because the God who saved those 13 souls in 1900 is still able, willing and wanting to save souls and give hope. He is WORTHY, don’t look back, remember Lot’s wife!!!
